Day 8

We are definitely starting to get into the colder weather. I woke up to it being 68 in the house. Brr. So while in my amazing warm clothes I sat down to enjoy my favorite breakfast of steel cut oats. I had never tried steel cut oats until we moved to WA. I have been hooked ever since. It's not mushy like normal oatmeal. It has a nutty taste to it and is crunchier. The best part about it is it keeps me full for hours. My favorite way to do it is just adding brown sugar and raisins. It's fantastic.

After all of that the majority of my day was spent at work. I can't complain since we opened an hour later today and I was off at 4. It was nice working shorter hours today.

Once I was home from work it was time to bust out a workout. Today's video was Cardio Power & Resistance. I was so proud of myself. The only pause I did on the video was to put dinner in the oven. I'm loving the videos more and more because I see myself getting stronger. Now to start slowly adding more other workouts in along with Insanity.

I wanted to make us something nice for dinner so I tried something different. I went with a parmesan crusted chicken, roasted broccoli & cauliflower, and baked bbq beans. It was very good. The chicken was just dry italian seasoning, garlic, and parmesan cheese mixed together and then coat the chicken in the mixture. The vegetables were roasted in garlic and olive oil then sprinkled with parmesan cheese. I really like the vegetables the most.

Normally we end out nights with watching a show together. We've already finished the two season of Game of Thrones. Tonight we've started the Breaking Bad series all while I munched on some 100 calorie popcorn.

Okay I want this blog to be more of a fitness journey and not just an Insanity journey. I know the whole reason I started blogging again was to write down my progress with Insanity. But this isn't just a for the moment change. This is a lifestyle change. So I'm needing a creative name for the blog instead of Harris Family plus a nice layout to go with it. Any ideas?

Day 6

Since today is Sunday we got to sleep in! Normally we only sleep in until about 9 or so, we're getting old. However we had a not so great wake up call at 4:30am. Sally puked, poor girl. Not sure why since she's acting fine today. After cleaning it up we passed back out until noon. It was glorious.

We started the morning with breakfast and watching Modern Family. I had some awesome oatmeal with a breakfast to go pack poured on top and a cup of coffee. I decided to then go ahead and get my Insanity video done for the day.

Today was Plyometric Cardio Circuit. This is the video I did the first day after the fit test. I already felt a difference between that day and today. I paused less and pushed more. That is what I was aiming for and I'm glad it's working.

During one super tough part I repeated to myself the picture I posted "train insane or remain the same". It sounds silly but it really worked.

I'm happy to say I finished week 1. Tomorrow is relax day!!!

Day 5

Today's workout was Pure Cardio.

I had read about this workout online, just to get an idea of what it included. Most people said it was one of the hardest videos in the program. I was a little nervous after seeing that but actually excited too.

The warm up was hard like normal. It includes 3 rounds of exercises with each round getting faster. There were exercises such as jogging, jumping jacks, butt kicks, and more.

The next part was not like the other videos I had done. The other videos followed the warm up set up. This video though is like it's name and it's straight, pure cardio.

I feel like I did good but there is always room for improvement. With every video I want to get better and push harder.

In another news I was shocked that we were not slammed at work with people pulling out cash. We did get a steady amount of people in who wanted extra cash just in case.

We went out to get a few things for ourselves. I think we're pretty set on water and food. I'm hoping it's not that bad but if it is we are prepared.

Day 4/Hurricane

I had thoughts of doing the workout this morning but that didn't happen. I ended up enjoying my morning of peace. I lounged with coffee, read my book, and watched the Today show. I really needed that time to me.

So I did the workout this evening after dinner. Tonight's was Cardio Recovery. I wasn't sure what to expect and was scared of what a insanity recovery workout would be like.

My favorite part of this workout was doing squats. I didn't have a least favorite because I liked all of the moves in this one. It was great stretching out my muscles that have been so tight lately.

On a different subject I'm really hoping this hurricane isn't too bad. We put up signs at work giving the members a heads up that we may close on Monday and Tuesday due to it. We even had a high volume of people coming in at the end of the day pulling out cash just in case.

One lady went off about how all this stuff will stop working, stores will close because the automatic doors can't open...etc. I wanted to tell her that next thing will be the zombies. I understand wanting to be prepared and it could be horrible. But with the way she spoke you would think the world was ending tomorrow.

At least I recently bought 4 huge books so if the electricity does go out I'm good.

Day 3

I brought up at work that I was doing the Insanity program. A couple of other girls seemed interested in doing a workout here and there together. I got the number for one of them and if we can get this set in stone it would be fun. To have someone there doing the same thing and pushing each other.

Work was super insane today. It made coming home to workout sound amazing. I looked forward to burning off some stress this evening.

Tonight was Cardio Power & Resistance. It was a lot of fun. I liked this one. It involved moving pushups which reminded me of bootcamp classes with Danielle in WA (miss those and her).

The highlight of the workout was doing a squat jump and landing on a super squeaky toy. The dogs loved that hehe.

Off to enjoy my smart pop kettle corn. Best 130 calorie end of day snack.

Day 2

This is my amazing post workout, I'm super soaked in sweat face. It's beautiful right ? hehe. I think so.

Why? Because this face says I pushed it through and made it.

Tonight was plyometric cardio circuit. It was tough but then again this program is called Insanity. If it was easy I'd be mad.

The only issue I had to push through was ankles hurting. I've sprained both of them in the past pretty bad. Every since then they've been weaker. With time and less weight I see them getting stronger.

Not only did I do this today but I had a session with Laura. It was the best way to start the day!

In order to get the best results from this I've been hardcore tracking my calories. I even bought more snacks tonight. I did great day and stuck with 1550 calories. I had to throw in a banana tonight to make it through Insanity.

Insanity Day 1

I was never sure if I should blog about this or not. But with the help of some amazing friends I decided to go for it.

My fitness journey started several years ago when I met an amazing person, Laura. I weighed in at 200 pounds in 2008 and was not happy at all with how far I had let myself go. I signed up for training sessions with Laura and it changed my life forever.

Thanks to her I lost 40+ pounds and found a love for working out.

Now years later I wanted to challenge myself. I started sessions with her again because she is amazing at her job! I also then took the plunge and ordered Insanity.

It came in the mail today and I was thrilled!

I went ahead and started the program today. Day 1 is the fit test. You go through several exercises, do them for 1 minute, and then write down how many you were able to complete. The fit test is done every two weeks to keep up with your progress.

Here are my results:
Switch kicks- 48 reps
Power jacks- 37
Power knees- 80
Power jumps- 28
Globe jumps- 8 reps
Suicide jumps- 13
Push-up jacks- 21
Low plank oblique- 51

I also took some before pictures so that once I'm done I can see how far I've come.
